After discussion with other community members, we decided this page was counterproductive, and created direct links to mods on the DFU UESP front page. We request that it be deleted when possible.

Restoration[edit]

User:imperialbattlespire resurrected this page on August 14, 2022. I want to give some background on why I requested that it be deleted:

1. No purpose. This page was created back when we didn't have a Nexus to upload to, so it was made as a convenient list of available mods to download. Now that Nexus exists, the vast majority of these mods can be found on it with less trouble. An argument could be made for culling this list down to only mods that cannot be found on Nexus, but restorer has not done this at the time of writing.

2. Outdated. Some listed mods are inferior to modern replacements ("inferior" meaning "functionally worse or less complete," not a matter of artistic taste), such as "Vibrant NPC Flats" being superceded by "Pure Vanilla Extract," and "No Nudity Patch" having the much better replacement, Ninelan's "No Nudity." Mountains and Hills is defunct as of 0.13.5, but it remains on the page. Villager Immersion Overhaul isn't available for download at this time, but it remains. If this page is going to remain active, it will require some significant editing, or it will not be very useful.

3. Possibility of self-promotion. On Nexus, mods can be evaluated by endorsements and download counts to see how good they are. This page has no such mechanisms. Bad mods can be promoted here just as easily as good ones, leaving the user to find out whether anything written here has value. A counter-argument could be made that lesser-known mods could use this kind of promotion, but the question still has to be asked, what conditions there are to mods being uploaded here; if it's for "less-known but worthwhile" mods, that's a matter of subjective opinion and shouldn't be listed as a community effort as this page currently reads. If it's just for non-Nexus mods, then the page requires a full rewrite. If it's for any mod at all, then it's just a front wrapper to Nexus.

I won't ask for its deletion again, but I want to make clear that I have nothing to do with this new version of the page, and the matter is out of my hands. JayH2971 (talk) 06:33, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I will change the wording of "inferior" and remove the defunct/not available mods. The reason I restored it is we have mod pages for pretty much every gamespace, including more obscure games like Shadowkey, TES Travels, Battlespire, Arena, etc, so it's a matter of consistency as it allows for mod authors to document information that might not be on the Nexus, and as you allude to, it can also be for non-nexus mods if people prefer to upload them here.
On the self-promotion side of things, this hasn't really been an issue in the past and I am currently in communication with Kab to help ensure that 'bad' mods are not on this page. Imperialbattlespire (talk) 12:28, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
Very well. If you're willing to take responsibility, I don't see a problem with it. Thanks for the answer and explanation. JayH2971 (talk) 12:44, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
