Shade Sickle

The Shade Sickle is a Breton-made weapon with the ability to separate the living from their shadows. This leaves its victims fated to gradually become hapless beings akin to thralls.[1] Though mortal in origin, it is now a daedric artifact associated with the Daedric Prince Nocturnal, who was given the weapon at one point after its potential was realized. Nocturnal considers it a powerful instrument of her will.[2][3] Despite its common appearance, the blade is preternaturally sharp, and those who gaze at it experience a deep sense of foreboding.[4]

History[edit]

At some point before 2E 582, Breton artificers crafted the Shade Sickle. Eventually, one of the Shade Sickle's owners realized its power, and attempted to hide it by offering it at the Shrine of Nocturnal in Blackwood under the guise of a gift.[1]

Circa 2E 582 the artifact was stolen by two thieves, Darene Gavendier and Giovanni Corvus. They were hired by a powerful necromancer Tumma-Maxath who coveted the power of the Shade Sickle.[2] He needed the artifact to complete his ritual in his lair in Bloodrun Cave.[5] Nocturnal requested the Vestige to retrieve the sickle to her shrine. They ventured to Bloodrun Cave in northeastern Blackwood and took the artifact from the altar in the necromancer's lair.[2] The Vestige returned the artifact to the shrine of Nocturnal. Her follower, Millona Brolus, intended to hide the artifact in a more secure place than the shrine. According to Nocturnal's faithful, the artifact should never be used in necromantic rituals.[6]
