Wendelbek is an Ayleid ruin located on the northern shore of the Panther River within the deeper parts of the Nibenay Basin.[1] Its subsections of Aldmerisel, Sel Aran Mathmedli, and Silaseli roughly translate to "Ancestor's Hall", "Hall of the Exiled King", and "Shining Halls" respectively in Ayleidoon. It is noted for its large subterranean halls and Welkynd stone supply,[2] and for being the namesake for the Scouring of Wendelbek.[3]

History[edit]
In the late Merethic Era, an event known as the Narfinsel Schism marked the beginning of a violent internal conflict among the Ayleid city-states of Cyrod. This conflict between the Aedra-worshipping Barsaebics and the Daedra-worshipping Daedraphiles reached a climax in 1E 198 at the Scouring of Wendelbek, which ended all organized opposition to Daedra worship and drove the Barsaebics out of Cyrod.[3][4] However, the Alessian Slave Rebellion began less than fifty years later, forcing most Ayleids to flee Cyrodiil or perish at the hands of the Nedes. The burgeoning Alessian Empire toppled the remaining Ayleid cities of Cyrodiil one by one, and Wendelbek subsequently fell into ruin.
During the Oblivion Crisis in 3E 433, the ruins of Wendelbek were plundered by a treasure hunter, who obtained one of the Ten Ancestors, which was inevitably sold to the Ayleid enthusiast, Umbacano at the Imperial City.[5] At the time, the ruins contained a coven of necromancers, likely to be a part of the Order of the Black Worm.[2]
Notes[edit]
- The first portion of its name "Wend" translates to "Journey" in Ayleidoon, but the translation of the remaining portion elbek is unknown.
