Oblivion talk:Audens Avidius
Audens spawned in an Oblivion tower. Can he spawn anywhere, or follow you anywhere, to get even? — Unsigned comment by 83.108.239.151 (talk)
You get the quest completed if you kill him, and it says he must have escaped from prison. — Unsigned comment by 83.108.239.151 (talk)
- The walkthrough of the quest in which you put him in jail says he finds you anywhere. Not too bright to fight the main character even in the planes of oblivion, he should've become a psychic detective, managing to track you down in oblivion. - Korunox 19:15, 14 February 2008 (EST)
I completed the quest concerning Audens Avidius and after I waited in the Imperial City I saw him standing in front of me starting to run away. I chased him down and got him to like me through conversation. He now just stands around not doing a thing. It doesnt seem like this will have any serious effects I just wanted to point it out.
somthin similar happend to me when i was wearing the cowl of the gray fox he tryed to arrest me and the funny thing is i was doing the "scheduled for executioned"(i was right by the stone wall to the prison cell) quest soi took it off and yielded...he just walked back to the sewers i think he lives there now ^.^

Escape how?[edit]
I don't see how he escaped through the same escape route. If you visit prisoners when he is arrested, he isn't put in your cell, hes put in the cell across from the night mother person. So i don't see how he escaped. — Unsigned comment by Lucky the Cat Guy (talk • contribs)
- Picked the lock on his cell, picked the lock on your old cell and then escaped? Just a guess. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 05:58, 4 August 2008 (EDT)
- I doubt he knew about it...and besides, he would have to get past the Jailor due to there being 2 rooms, him being in the opposite one. If i was to guess, i would think that there was other passages.
- Or one of the guards just let him out - if he's corrupt and he's made it this far, he may have connections. I wouldn't worry too much about how he got out, if the intimation is the Bethesda overlooked that plot point. I don't think they did - there are many ways out of an Imperial prison, especially if you have connections. xoxo Coryl

Ramblings[edit]
It is said at the end of his 'ramblings' that he will make Itius squeal first. Is he killed when Audens escapes? Or did he say that as meaning he will 'make him squeal' before killing him? — Unsigned comment by Lucky the Cat Guy (talk • contribs)
- No, it's an empty threat and Itius stays alive. I'd say it means he intended to make Itius squeal and then kill him. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 05:57, 4 August 2008 (EDT)
More than 10 days?[edit]
Does he really spend more than 10 days in jail for low-level characters? This sounds more like a hunch somebody had rather than hard evidence, but I could be wrong. Mutated 03:16, 10 August 2008 (EDT)
- It's true - you can see it in the construction set. You must be over level 5 before he will escape, presumably because he'd be too much of a challenge otherwise. I've corrected the article. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 04:25, 10 August 2008 (EDT)
Guards assisting Audens[edit]
Audens found me at the Arcane University and attacked me, of course. Thing is, the Battlemage at the post decided to attack me as well. It was only after I was dead did he attack Audens. I didn't have a bounty, nor did I attack first. Seems like a bug to me, but has anyone else seen this happen? -71.161.35.134 04:11, 12 December 2008 (EST)
- I had the same issue. I had just got out of prison, and he was right in front of me. He looked sideways (like someone does if you're behind them, watching you) then the fight music started and he attacked. Naturally I summoned my Clannfer and pulled out my fists(pure mage FTW) to attack, when the gaurd standing near the door started to attack. I managed to kill Avidius, and had the gaurd nearly dead, when another gaurd attacked and killed me. Anyone want to check the CS for possible reasons? (69.66.137.151 18:48, 8 January 2009 (EST))

Audens being non hostile and a location glitch[edit]
Is it usual for him to be non hostile because well let me tell you the scenario. So Audens finds me (after the completion of the Imperial Corruption quest) as I am leaving The Tiber Septim Inn. He starts to attack me (along with the guards) and I am killed. When I went to reload the autosave (i am on the Xbox 360) i find Audens standing in front of me and he doesnt attack me. I am able to talk to him and he acts like a normal guard (same dialogue as a usual guard).
Also Does he suffer from the same bug as Camilla Lollia and the Desolate Mine fighters because he appears outside any city jail after I've been arrested and he stays there?
I got the bug mentioned above about the guards helping audens, I yielded to the guard and paid my fine, when I respawned at the jail audens was there but non hostile. — Unsigned comment by Baenlin (talk • contribs) on 26 May 2009
Already Dead[edit]
Ok, heres another wierd thing about this guy. Before i had started the quest for this guy i found him dead at the gate between the Arena District and Market district, at the foot of an Imperial Legion Soldier. There was also an orc with a big axe standing near his body. So...I wonder what killed him. Also, moments later a Khajiit walked past and the orc attacked the Khajiit which caused the Imperial Soldier to kill him. I'm fairly sure that the orc and Khajiit were part of the Imperial City Extended mod that i am running, but i'm still left wondering how this happened. 58.164.33.236 23:30, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
- The Orc and Khajiit you're talking are definitely not in vanilla Oblivion, so they are probably part of the mod you mentioned. Audens Avidius' death is probably caused by the mod, although several NPCs turn up dead from time to time for no apparent reason in vanilla Oblivion as well. Early Death?[edit]
When my level 1 warrior put him in jail, i went to see him. I put his disposition down to zero and he gets out of his cage and attacks, before 10 days. Is it because of high aggresion and the door being unlocked for later? — Unsigned comment by 90.197.170.22 (talk) at 04:10 on 21 December 2009
Audens is strange. If you get his diposition down to 0, then he'll suddenly become hostile, although he won't go in to attack mode. He'll just stand there shouting taunts as if he's fighting you. Yoblivio 14:48, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
Whacky encounter[edit]
So I was in castle Cheydinhal, doing my burglary thang, when a guard spots me (or someone). I quickly take shelter in a little nook, but I see that the guard is coming and clearly is about to put me in some trouble. Then, out of nowhere, this crazed bald guy comes running and starts stabbing the guard with a dagger. It was quite a show, but I didn't stick around, instead deciding to run. When I later returned I examined the remains of the bald man- the guard had not had much trouble killing him after getting over his initial shock, apparently. I thought it might have been a thief guild member coming to my defense, but no- it was our friend avidius, coming after me. Neat, unscripted plot twist.— Unsigned comment by 74.39.18.75 (talk) at 07:13 on 14 Februari 2010
- You probably have completed Imperial Corruption up to the point where he escapes from prison and is trying to find you to kill you. When other NPCs try to get to you first, he rushes to your defence. He probably wants the honor of killing you himself. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 12:36, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Question of Location[edit]
During the 'Taking Care of Lex' quest, I was waiting inside the Stranger's house, when suddenly my 24 hours of waiting was suddenly cut off. Out of nowhere, Audens Avidius shows up swinging his dagger like nobody's business. The funny part, though, is that I was wearing a 100% Chameleon suit at the time, and simply watched in awe as he sheaths and draws his blade, at least over 9000 times. However, when I left the Abandoned House (the Stranger had already fled, even though he easily could've killed Audens), Mr. Avidius simply ran away. Is there any distinct location he returns to? I'm merely curious, there's no dire need to know. Tw££z£r510♂ 21:54, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- Update: he pursued me (three days or so) later, and I simply killed him. He's certainly persistent, I'll give him that. Tw££z£r510♂ 02:27, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
- Its his script, three days after you finish Imperial Corruption if your level 7 and above, he escapes prison and seeks to gain his revenge, (as seen on the note on his body) by killing you. He'll follow you anywhere across cyrodiil- and beyond...--Arch-Mage Matt 02:32, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
arrested by prisoner?[edit]
I did the Imperial Corruption quest. Then later I went down to visit Audens Avidius with the jailor. I killed the jailor and Audens went into attack mode as well. I took the key from the body of the jailor and then Audens acted completely like a guard and confronted me, took my stolen possessions and fined me.
Charm[edit]
It's possible to Charm Audens when he attacks you. When I was on the quest that involves killing the Draconis family, he appeared and attacked me when I entered Applewatch, there I managed to charm him enough to be able to yield and raise his disposition with me so he won't attack me anymore even after the spell wears off. Funnily enough he responded to me after yielding saying something like: "I'm Watch Captain Audens Avidius." And not only that, but I saw Perennia Draconis walking up to him, and both talking about rumors like the regular citizens. However he will be stuck in place for the rest of the game. And probably disappear when the interior of Applewatch is changed later on in the Dark Brotherhood. His book can be pickpocketed from him, and will not be marked as a stolen item.
Update: I reloaded an old save, and got him to follow me to the basement of Rosethorn Hall. There I did the same, and he had more conversation options than just rumors, he now gives me directions to places in Skingrad, just like a Skingrad guard. When asked about Hieronymus Lex he will respond with: "Yeah. I've heard of him. Isn't he a soldier or guardsman in the Imperial City?" It's like he completely forgot who Lex is. And if you have a bounty on your head and talk to him, he will act just like a guard and will try to throw you into prison.
Not only that, but when I approach him, he will respond like a guard, saying "Protect and serve. It's what we do." And last, when Eyja greets him, she will greet him like she greets the player, saying "Good evening, milord." Omnislash449 17:36, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
- Some of his dialogue is location-based, so it makes sense that you'd get different options when you moved somewhere unusual. I'm not sure how you would have gotten the Hieronymus Lex line, though, as that's not even in his list of topics. I'll do some testing of my own and see what I can come up with. – Robin Hood↝talk 18:56, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
- Update: Yeah, the line you got from him about Hieronymus Lex is added by the Wanted Poster. I wasn't thinking of that. At a glance, it looks like all the guards should say that to you, provided you can get them to speak to you in the first place, as you did with charming Audens. I didn't try actually charming him, but there are a number of oddities when you charm someone.
- Feel free to add some of this to the article itself if you feel it would be useful to others. I'd shorten it down to just something like "Charming Audens can cause him to behave unusually and have some unexpected dialogue", maybe along with one of the above examples. – Robin Hood↝talk 19:22, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

This guy shows up anywhere![edit]
I entered Belletor's Folly (Mines/Zone 2) from the Zone 1 entrance, obviously. Avidius appeared from door leading to/from (Caverns/Zone 3). Either he had been waiting there for me, or the game randomly chooses when to have him appear after the requisite ten days in prison. Predcon 03:05, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
- He will appear anywhere after you get to a certain point in the quest. He can actually follow you to oblivion I believeWestern3589 03:09, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
- Into Oblivion? I think Bethesda passed up a perfect opportunity to make a reference to Pratchett's Luggage. Predcon 07:04, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- Has anyone been in the Shivering Isles while Audens Avidius confronted the player 10 days after his arrest? It would be interesting to charm him and see what he says, if anything at all. --Dremora Lord 15:59, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Yep, I charmed him. But he's glitched, and will do the I HAVE NO GREETING! 213.107.186.105 19:08, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
- I think this is a great feature of this quest. I was in Echo Cave, just about to get to Mannimarco... turned a corner and BAM, Audens ambushes me. It's so unpredictable and interesting that he can appear anywhere to exact revenge at the least convenient opportunity. I hope Skyrim has more like this. 99.239.202.171 23:09, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

"You cannot wait when enemies are nearby"[edit]
Ok I've run in to a weird glitch. I travelled to the Market District and suddenly the guard next to me shouted "to arms, to arms!" as if to signal a hostile enemy was nearby. Naturally I assumed that it was a mythic dawn assasin, but the thing is, the guards won't moving, they were just standing there shouting taunts and other rubbish. Aswell as that, the danger music wasn't even playing. I looked around loads and I couldn't find anyone, even though I couldn't wait. I decided to summon a creature to help find whatever it was. The creature suddenly went for Audens Avidius and there was a massive fight with loads of guards getting invloved.
Not really sure why, but it seems that Audens is classed as an enemy?
- Have you checked his diposition towards you? The same thing happened to me with Fathis Aren. Yoblivio 12:17, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
-
- The same thing will happen when the player is near Adamus Phillida if his diposition towards you is low enough. --Manic 00:03, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Audens will join the crowd of prison followers[edit]
Is it worth mentioning that Audens will randomly appear outside of Prison alongside the other glitched guys from the fighters guild if you manage to charm him or escape? Yoblivio 14:45, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
Audens Avidius hostile for no reason[edit]
Even before starting the quest, Audens' is classed as an enemy. I can't wait when I'm near him and when walking around the city he'll mutter things like "Huh" and "What's that" and finally "To arms! To arms!" like an enemy would. 213.107.185.137 21:12, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
Audens Resurrected?[edit]
I had done the quest where he goes to jail about 5 in-game months ago. He escaped and I killed him, and after I did the hackdirt quest, I found him in Jiv Hiriel's house... Alive! I know I killed him in IC but how did he come back? Btw all he has is a silver warhammer and sack cloth clothes, from what I can see. And this is on the Xbox. — Unsigned comment by 50.71.135.146 (talk) at 02:40 on 23 October 2011 (UTC)
Moved from article[edit]
During Two Sides of the Coin, after you get released from serving your sentence, if he's escaped and hadn't found you prior, he'll spawn right next to you once you are teleported outside the castle, and will immediately run away. If you have a fast enough speed and acrobatics, it's possible to jump constantly while running to catch him, and then engage conversation with him. Some of his dialogue options will be as if he was still a guard. It's also possible to raise his disposition to 100. He will then act without hostility. You can also pickpocket him. If you equip the Grey Fox cowl, he'll still act like a guard with the 3 options. Resisting arrest he'll attack, and Bruma guards will join him and presumably ignore his bounty. This occurs with most recent UOP.
After reading through this entry in the bugs section of the article, it sounds very similar to a bug on the article for Two Sides of the Coin in which NPCs from previous quests are waiting for you outside the jail after being arrested, such as the Fighters Guild members from the Bleak Mine quest. I've removed the entry from this page to prevent redundancy. Zul do onikaanLaan tinvaak 13:06, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
Stuck after Escaping/Spawning?[edit]
I was getting a bit worried since Avidius did not show up for well over 10 days past Imperial Corruption (that he might show up somewhere/some time inconvenient), so I saved the game and used console to go to where he was and I was amused to find him in Deepscorn Hollow, where the stairs to the outside is located. Not sure if he spawned elsewhere and moved into the cell, or if he spawned there, but whatever happened, I clearly missed him when he first showed up.
Curious if he moved after he has officially "escaped," I reloaded and waited for 72 hours in the Imperial City, hoping he'd show up. No show, so I used the console command after the wait to go to where he was and, lo and behold, he's still exactly where he was in Deepscorn Hollow. This has me wondering if Audens Avidius actually tries to find you after he spawns or he stays in the area where he shows up, and if latter, why he was apparently stuck in Deepscorn Hollow? Is that specific to the particulars of Deepscorn Hollow? (If I understand it right, the minion also apparently gets stuck on the way out of there also when you send him out on a mission). — Unsigned comment by 76.93.91.225 (talk) at 19:14 on 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- As per the article, Audens spawns at the main gate to the Prison District and proceeds to track you down. From what you're saying, it sounds like he got caught up in the Deepscorn Hollow trapdoor bug. --SerCenKing (talk) 12:48, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
