Online:Provinces
Black Marsh — Cyrodiil — Elsweyr — Hammerfell — High Rock — Morrowind — Skyrim — Summerset Isles — Valenwood
Provinces are large regions that make up Tamriel. In The Elder Scrolls Online, the continent is divided by various Zones, some of which are directly referred to as "provinces", although the names of the eight traditional Imperial provinces are still mentioned extremely often. Some zones cross through multiple traditional provinces, and some provinces are split by varying allegiances. This page lists all the traditional provinces and the zones and other locations that are described as falling under them.
Black Marsh[edit]
Black Marsh is a dense swampland region of southeastern Tamriel, home to the reptilian humanoid race of Argonians and a race of sentient trees known as the Hist. Mer races also use the name Argonia, a reference to an obscure ancient battlefield, to avoid the negative connotations of the term "Black Marsh". Argonians thrive in the foreboding swamps of Black Marsh, a lush and threatening land teeming with poisonous plants and violent predators. The region's tropical climate lends its plants the capacity to overturn all attempts to cultivate them. Foreign agricultural, colonial, and commercial ventures beyond the slave-trade have met with abject failure. The native Argonians organize themselves on the tribal level with success and efficiency.

Cyrodiil[edit]
This article is about the general province. For the zone, see Cyrodiil.
Cyrodiil, also known as the Imperial Province, Dragon Empire, Starry Heart of Nirn, and Seat of Sundered Kings, and Cyrod in Ayleid, is a province in the south-central region of Tamriel, and the home of a human race known as the Imperials. The capital of Cyrodiil and its empires, the Imperial City, is located on City Isle in the center of the province, with the renowned White-Gold Tower rising above it. Despite some accounts describing Cyrodiil as a jungle, it primarily has a temperate climate. Amid the Interregnum that followed the collapse of the Second Empire, Cyrodiil has splintered politically. The Empire of Cyrodiil lies in disarray from a Daedric invasion and the ongoing Alliance War, leaving outlying regions of the province to their own devices.
For more information, see the main lore article.

Elsweyr[edit]
This article is about the province. For the Chapter, see Elsweyr.
Elsweyr is a region that lies on the southern coast of Tamriel, and is home to the feline Khajiit. It is divided into two major climates: savannahs, badlands and dry plains in the north, and fertile lands of jungle and rainforests in the south. The Elsweyr Confederacy that governs the region during the Interregnum is a relatively recent development. The Confederacy was formed through the union of the two kingdoms of Anequina and Pellitine, which were themselves formed from the ancient Sixteen Kingdoms in the First Era. Northern Elsweyr (Anequina) is known for its warrior culture, while Southern Elsweyr (Pellitine) boasts prosperous farming and trade.

Hammerfell is a province in the west of Tamriel, bordering Skyrim, Cyrodiil, and High Rock. This province is dominated by the torrid wasteland of the Alik'r Desert. It is inhabited by the human race of Redguards, who fled to Tamriel and built a formidable kingdom after their homeland, Yokuda, was destroyed.

High Rock[edit]
High Rock is a province in Tamriel's northwest. It is a generally mountainous region with a variety of climates ranging from temperate to frigid. Most of the province is inhabited by the Bretons, who have divided the land into a patchwork of city-states and minor kingdoms. A cold, northerly region of High Rock known as Wrothgar has been ceded to the Orcs, while the Isle of Balfiera is ruled by the Elven Direnni Clan. The city of Wayrest is the capital of the Daggerfall Covenant.

Morrowind[edit]
This article is about the province. For the Chapter, see Morrowind.
Morrowind, previously named Dwemereth, Veloth, Resdayn, and Dunmereth, is the province in the northeast corner of Tamriel, and the home of the Dunmer. It is dominated by the large island of Vvardenfell and its centerpiece, the ash-spewing Red Mountain, but also includes territory on the continental mainland. The Inner Sea separates Vvardenfell from the mainland, and the Sea of Ghosts lies to the province's north. The capital city Mournhold also serves as the capital of the Ebonheart Pact. The area around Blacklight is not accurately drawn on the map; the in-world explanation for this is that the map is misdrawn on purpose, as the Nords have never been comfortable with the fact that the Dark Elves hold the west coast of the Inner Sea and in some cases their maps elide that fact entirely.[2]
For more information, see the main lore article.

The otherworldly Clockwork City is considered part of Morrowind. It is composed of a single zone:

Skyrim[edit]
This article is about the historical province. For the storyline, see Dark Heart of Skyrim.
Skyrim, the northernmost province of Tamriel, is a cold and mountainous region also known as the Old Kingdom, Mereth, or the Fatherland, or Keizaal in the dragon tongue. Many past battles have given it a ravaged appearance and numerous ruins. Though currently inhabited primarily by Nords, the Elves who they replaced had resided there since time immemorial. During the Interregnum, Skyrim is divided into three kingdoms: East Skyrim, West Skyrim, and The Reach, the last of which is controlled by the Reachmen.

The Summerset Isles (sometimes spelled Sumurset, Summurset or Sumerset) is a province in southwest Tamriel consisting of an archipelago of fourteen islands, the three largest and most significant of which are Summerset Isle, Auridon, and Artaeum. The province is home to the Altmer, who are governed by an ancient monarchy that resides in the capital city of Alinor.

Valenwood is a densely forested, sub-tropical region that encompasses the southwestern coastal plain of Tamriel. It is primarily inhabited by the Bosmer. During the Interregnum, the traditional capital of Falinesti, an enormous migratory tree, has mysteriously disappeared, and in its place the city of Elden Root serves as the seat of Valenwood's kings and capital of the Aldmeri Dominion.
