Greenspring Hollow

Greenspring Hollow is a shallow outdoor cave west-northwest of Whiterun containing a leveled animal.

Walkthrough

As you approach the outcropping, a single predator will likely attack you. Once it is dealt with, you can safely search the creature's den. It appears a foolish hunter decided to camp here and paid with his life. His body lies on the blood-splattered ground next to a fallen cooking spit. Some lootable skeletal remains are farther back next to two unusable bedrolls and a level-locked chest. A copy of the Argonian Account, Book 2 rests on a boulder beside the chest, with a random bow next to it.

The hunter's lean-to on the right side of the outcropping shelters a total of ten pelts of various animals. An apothecary's satchel, a small coin purse, and a bear trap are near the lean-to. On the left side of the outcropping is a tanning rack. A leg of goat, a piece of horse meat, and some venison hang from the ceiling on a rope. Two clusters of fly amanita, an imp stool, and a Namira's rot grow around the camp.

Follow the nearby stream south to find a Nirnroot and a gold ore vein near the river. You may encounter a few more predators in the area as well.

Notes

• Only the level-locked chest, skeletal remains, and apothecary's satchel respawn. All other items, including the hunter's body, only appear on your first visit. Therefore, any radiant quest that requires recovering an item from this location can be completed even after it has been cleared.

Bugs

• The animal does not respawn, which makes it impossible to complete the quest Animal Extermination if Aela asks you to clear this location after it had been previously cleared.
  • The Unofficial Skyrim Patch, version 2.0.0, fixes this bug.
