Luna Moth locations[edit]
Where are luna moths found? If someone could add a tip for that (they're used in invisibility potions), that'd be great.— Unsigned comment by 174.17.96.18 (talk) at 15:18 on 27 November 2011
- They seem to be quite rare, but you can always find one or two in the volcanic tundra west of Whiterun. — Unsigned comment by Ulkomaalainen (talk • contribs) at 04:03 on 8 December 2011
- I think they act like real life moths, i.e they tend to come out at night, so walking through the grass plains at night would be your best chance to find some. — Unsigned comment by Gimee (talk • contribs) at 11:48 on 11 December 2011
- Just walking though Solitude at night i found 6. I'm not sure if I am just lucky but it seems possible --J.J.-Lopez 20:18, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
- South of the East Empire Company, across the bay, near the Blue Palace rock, is a Stonehenge-like formation. At night, this place is crawling with Luna Moths and Torchbugs.
- Anywhere you can find butterflies during the day, you can typically find Luna Moths and Torchbugs at night. Good bets are the rock formations, like the one mentioned above, but also the ones outside of Ustengrav, the ruins outside of Morvath's Lair, the ritual site outside of Morthal, the Apprentice Stone, the various unmarked ruins on the plains of Whiterun, and in Riften at the Talos Shrine and near Honorhall Orphanage. 68.99.31.25 10:20, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Hawks[edit]
Just wanted to drop a note that if you hit a hawk with a nondamaging spell - in my case, Courage - they still die and drop to the ground. 70.112.232.71 06:47, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

- When you kill a hawk, its nest disappears. Also, just like the insects, hawks will push your body if you are in the way of its flight path.
- If you kill it while in its nest, it kinda looks like both the hawk and the nest disappear and are instantly replaced with a new hawk (dead). I wonder if the live hawk & nest are an animation that is scripted to be replaced by an item (the dead hawk container) when 'activated' a certain way. A wiki admin stated on a page that hawk bodies are classified as containers, and I assume she meant in the game console. Do the bodies ever disappear? Will the nest/live hawk respawn? It'd be neat to know if you could collect hawks as containers in an area.
- Also, it might be more accurate to say in the page that hawks are an animation that follows a circular(ish) flight path which always includes a brief stop at its nest. Saying that hawks "Return to [their nest] from time to time" sounds like it doesn't happen as often, or that it's random. Instead, each hawk I've seen is just flying a path which begins and ends at the nest. It simply repeats this path forever regardless of other events, just like the animated fish/bugs. --Amsuko 06:51, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

- It seems to me that when the hawks in Solitude respawn, they can't be killed again. I'm not sure if this is a bug or what, but I've come back to kill some hawks after they respawn and they won't die. I know I've hit them because I see the bloodsplatter and then my arrows are sticking out of it. I've tried this with all 10 hawks in the city. They don't die! --— Unsigned comment by 137.186.191.87 (talk) at 20:23 on 26 February 2012
- It may also be noted that sometimes hawks can become glitched and won't die. I ran into 3 so far. Shoot them with 40 arrows and they will fly around like a pincushion. Spells won't kill them. It's kind of funny. --D. Gemini 02:35, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
- Ditto as of patch 1.5. Philbert 14:10, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
- More on hawks not dieing. It's not just the new respawn hawks but a number of hawks are not scripted to die apparently. Some times two identical hawks spawn and you can hit them and it will spawn an identical arrow hit on the second one :p. Great place to see this is outside Solitude over the docks. I would like to add that it would be convenient to know the highest concentrations of hawks, much like the info on fish spawning sites is helpful for collecting larger amounts of them and the insects that mark their positions.--75.249.79.95 06:38, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- Do they disappear, btw? As I've recently found corpses of hawks underwater near Solitude my char killed in a very beginning of the game. It has been a game... idk, year may be? - since then. Do their bodies actually disappear or is that a bug? --Mr.Killjoy (talk) 19:18, 22 March 2013 (GMT)
- The respawning time resets each time you enter a zone. If you want a place to respawn and every corpse to disappear you'll have to wait without re-entering for either 10 or 30 days depending on the place; in our case, it's 10 days, as for every town and city. 92.136.107.29 19:29, 22 March 2013 (GMT)
Regarding immortal hawks: When I kill a hawk, I see the body fall to the ground and can loot from it, but a duplicate continues flying in its path. The duplicate hawk can be hit with arrows, but cannot die. After a long enough time passes (days, weeks?) I can again shoot a hawk-corpse out of that same one, leaving its placeholder/ghost following its flight path as before. I usually throw the bodies somewhere I won't see them, letting them eventually despawn - unsure if the body disappearing is linked to the flying hawk becoming mortal again. Just putting this out there because the page says they can only be killed once. 121.45.247.176 06:30, 10 October 2013 (GMT)
Nuke the fish![edit]
Fish hit with damaging AOE effects, such as Fireballs or Unrelenting Force, will die and float to the surface of the water. — Unsigned comment by 99.67.221.255 (talk) at 22:43 on 2 January 2012
- I have seen a youtube video of this, called "Fishing in Skyrim" I believe, of a person Shouting dozens of fish to the surface. 98.228.90.26 04:23, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
Respawning[edit]
Any information on how often or quickly passive creatures respawn? It seems like insects just get generated at the appropriate time of day, but other creatures seem different. Hawks, for instance, have nests; if you blast all the hawks in solitude out of the air, do they reappear at all? I've noticed that their corpses seem to hang around for a really long time. — Unsigned comment by 184.7.133.48 (talk) at 01:49 on 23 January 2012
- Yes the Hawk corpses seem to last forever. So I carried four of them to the entrance of Proudspire Manor to use as storage. They seem to work very well. I will update this note should they be deleted or emptied out in the next 30 game days. Fredas, 2nd of Morning Star, 4:34 AM. Kalevala (talk) 04:27, 1 February 2013 (GMT)
Egg Sacs (should be removed from page)[edit]
Why is the note about egg sacs on this page? They are not creatures, and the information on the eggs and creatures can be found on other, more relevant pages. Shouldn't this be removed from this 'Passive Creatures' page? Alphabetface 06:34, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
- I concur, I would ask why a container is being considered a passive creature.--DaedalusMachina (talk) 04:00, 6 September 2012 (EDT)
Un-Killable Hawks Bug[edit]
I have a bug that seems to be affecting all hawks in my game now. I used to be able to kill them, and I did once or twice. But then I shot about 25 arrows in one one time and it wouldn't die, just fly around with arrows in it, and magic wouldn't work either. Since then, every hawk (about 7) that I have run into have been bugged the same way. I'm about to see what potions are made with hawk ingredients to see what I might be missing out on. Please, if anyone else has this bug, let us know. If it's not on the bugs page(s) already maybe I will add it. --D. Gemini 01:28, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
- Confirmed in Solitude - I killed all the hawks there, and when they respawned, they cannot be damaged by spell or arrow. — Unsigned comment by 71.204.50.95 (talk) at 00:32 on 22 May 2012
- I have also managed to get this bug for immortal hawks on Xbox 360. Not sure what has caused this. — Unsigned comment by 23.16.206.206 (talk) at 17:58 on 15 July 2012
- This happens with the birds flying above the guard tower in Castle Volkihar as well. 24.54.186.60 00:43, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
- It's an error of the script attached to the creatures but is pretty easy to fix. Google 'skyrim hawk fix'. I haven't tested it, but it should fix the Bonehawks from Dawnguard as well, because they use the same script. Once you get the fix it applies to hawks both already 'broken' (i.e. spawned instances already killed once by the player) along with ones you haven't harvested yet. -- Bluedanieru (talk) 03:42, 11 November 2012 (GMT)

Moved comment from Hawk Feathers article[edit]
This page seems like a more appropriate place for this comment:
When shot down, they dont make random movments when falling. There wings are still spread there head still looking foward (as if it where still flying) going down. — Unsigned comment by 72.182.42.124 (talk) at 17:03 on 18 April 2012

Added Unrelenting Force to things which kill passive insects.[edit]
Passive insects (butterflies, torchbugs, luna moths) can be 'killed' by Unrelenting Force. This is by far the easiest way to get them out of the sky, as the ingredients drop straight down. — Unsigned comment by 71.204.50.95 (talk) at 07:35 on 22 May 2012
- Yep, you're right. I originally thought using Unrelenting Force would send the insect flying halfway across Skyrim, but it isn't so. Kitkat •Talk•Contrib•E-mail 09:37, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
Animals and Passive Creatures pages seem mixed[edit]
Why are rabbits not covered here? I've seen them countless times, and they're useful targets for obtaining petty souls because they are surprisingly easy to catch and appear almost everywhere and thus on the way to the next place I need to find most of the time. Only dead rabbits are covered on the page.--75.249.79.95 06:42, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Above is my original comment, then I went to the animals page and discovered that there is basically a passive creatures section there. It seems to me that animals that do not attack under any circumstances should be on this page. Dead animals like rabbits that appear frequently in cooking areas should be mentioned under the sections for the living ones, and egg sacs should be mention on dungeon and ingredient pages, not here. Can anyone explain why this is not the case? --75.249.79.95 06:51, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Edit:I see the explanation at the top of the page and I get it now, but I feel that there must be a way to emphasize how much the things that should be on this page differ from other animals; mainly that they are not containers and usually disappear when activated.--75.249.79.95 06:57, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Ants[edit]
What about the ants on the tree stump in Half Moon Mill? I found some there but haven't found them elsewhere. Should they still be included as a sort of scenery-creature, like the bats? --Vulpa 17:03, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- I guess a note on the page would be ok if they are big enough to see. RIM 17:11, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- Since bats are on the page, even though they can't be interacted with, then ants should be allowed on there as well. --XyzzyTalk 17:20, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, the ants have a never-ending stream a couple rows of them thick that crisscrosses the stump. They are easily big enough to know what they are. Can someone in game check if they can be found anywhere else? Also, I don't know if they are out at all times of day/night. --Vulpa 17:25, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- There are two ambient effects called "FXantLinesStump" and "FXantLinesFlat" in CSList. Unfortunately, I can't find anything that lists where they are used. However, I was able to verify that the ants at Half-Moon Mill are present 24/7. --XyzzyTalk 18:09, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- I found the ones at Half-Moon Mill and there are also some in Riverwood on the stump near the one Ralof sits on after escaping Helgen.Babette 19:57, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

(←) There are seven FXantLinesStump: Riverwood, Riverwood Bridge, Half-Moon Mill, and four wilderness locations. There are two FXantLinesFlat: Riverwood Path and Riverwood Bridge.
The wilderness locations are harder for me to pinpoint. There's a circle of stones around a table with a skeleton and skill book on it, with a leveled necromancer, I think, somewhere northwest of Falkreath (or between Helgen and Falkreath; I saw the place earlier in-game). It's somewhere along that path. If you follow the road near there, there will be a large, dark gray boulder on the side of the road which has the ants on it. Another ant location is just off to the side of this same circle of standing stones, on a stump next to three fallen trees. The third is on a stump next to a fallen tree next to the road near Half-Moon Mill. The fourth is on a stump just outside of Cracked Tusk Keep. Vely►Talk►Email 20:20, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- Wow, nice finds. But how much (if any) goes into their description? Or should there be a link to right here, or what? --Vulpa 21:15, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
-
- If someone wants the specific locations we can send them here; I can't imagine many people will want to know all 9 locations, and having one of the locations on the page looks alright, since they're somewhat rare. As for description, I think what's on there now is nice. Vely►Talk►Email 22:13, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

- I disagree with listing ants on the page. The ants are static objects which cannot be interacted with, the same as rocks and trees. If we do want to list such mundane objects, it should be done elsewhere. —Legoless 13:48, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

Killing Salmon[edit]
Is it actually possible to kill salmon with a bow? I have tried it several times, only to have my arrow go through the salmon and have no effect. Pigdestroyer232 14:34, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
- No. They aren't actually creatures, just atmospheric things that you can activate. Vely►t►e 16:06, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
Soul Cairn Passive?[edit]
Withen the Soul Cairn, there are creatures that resemble the Whisp Setelites (from a whisp mother) or the Magic Anomolies. Does anyone know the name in CK of them? Should we add them to the passive creatures? Whispendtalk 16:38, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- They're called whispering spirits (BaseID xx01a8ef). They're already documented here. ~ Psylocke 16:50, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
-
- This article seems like a better place for them. They bear no relation to the Wisp enemies and can't be interacted with in any way (AFAIK). —Legoless 17:18, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Shellbugs[edit]
quick question, do the Shellbugs respawn? I don't really want to 'mine' one of them if it won't come back... Hazmick 22:05, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Dragonfly / Dartwing[edit]
Why are the dartwings listed as "dragonfly"? AFAIK they are never called dragonflies in the game. The Tamrielic name for them is dartwing. — Unsigned comment by 99.127.173.78 (talk) at 00:46 on 13 September 2012
- Dartwing is the ingredient, not the name of the bug. They are called dragonflies in-game.--Br3admax (talk) 00:50, 13 September 2012 (GMT)

- Additionally, it's not the first time dragonflies have appeared on Tamriel. —Legoless (talk) 14:48, 3 November 2012 (GMT)
Salmon Bug?[edit]
Firstly, I'm on PS3 with the 1.7 Patch installed. I've been swimming up and down the rivers for Spadetails and Longfins, but I'm clicking on every fish I see just in case as I swim by. Now I noticed that when I try to "catch" the salmon, nothing appears in my inventory nor does any "Salmon Meat added" or anything like that happen. I don't mind terribly as I don't have a use for them, but if it's happened to anyone else or if anyone has encountered this it might be useful to discuss. 174.141.213.242 06:40, 4 December 2012 (GMT)
Felsaad Tern[edit]
I found a dead, immobile Felsaad Tern on the surface of the water almost directly east of the Horker Island icon. If anyone can confirm, it might be worth noting somewhere. If you fast travel to Horker Island and start heading east towards a small island with some pine trees, you should come across it in just a few seconds. Minor EditsThreats•Evidence 07:16, 30 March 2013 (GMT)
- Lol. Checked this a long time ago but forgot to respond til now. I searched pretty extensively for the bird in the area you described but never found it. --Xyzzy Talk 07:04, 1 December 2013 (GMT)
Hawks and Shouts[edit]
I did some testing, and the only shouts that I found that would kill a hawk were Animal Allegiance (2 or 3 word), Soul Tear (3 word only), and Kyne's Peace (2 or 3 word). I'm going to remove the vn tag from the article and add a note to this effect. --Xyzzy Talk 16:37, 30 March 2013 (GMT)
Invincible hawk fix - moved from article[edit]
However a fix have been discovered. You must not shoot the hawk for some time and stay a time far from the place, if done correctly, the hawk can be killed again, but become invincible. Then, use the fix again. Tested in Lakeview Manor — Unsigned comment by 189.5.17.216 (talk) at 13:45 on 26 October 2013
Can somebody verify that this works before it gets added back to the article? --Xyzzy Talk 14:22, 26 October 2013 (GMT)
Creature IDs?[edit]
Is there a desire to document Form IDs for these creatures? I had to go to CSList to find the ID of blue butterflies for another discussion. --Xyzzy Talk 07:01, 1 December 2013 (GMT)
Are Felsaad Terns immortal after being slain once?[edit]
Hawks and Bone Hawks can only be killed once, according to this page, so I would guess that the same is true of these Terns. I still don't have Dragonborn so I cannot check. If they're not, I feel this should be noted, as it is distinct from the others. 71.48.178.196 06:10, 1 December 2014 (GMT)
Dragonflies and fish[edit]
The article doesn't state this, and I wouldn't claim it's the only type of appearance, but to my understanding, three dragonflies are always found flying above a group of three fish (almost always, or even just always, alchemical fish, so not salmon) ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 05:52, 16 February 2015 (GMT)
