Jannov Miranus mourns his son, but is everything as it seems?

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Speak to Helice Rastin in Arkay's Tower, Old Ebonheart about 'latest rumors' and 'disappearing bodies'.
  2. Speak to the inhabitants of Arkay's Tower's mortuary - Jannav Miranus, Washes-Their-Scales and Leius Corsus.
    • Jannav Miranus will open his son's coffin with speechcraft of 75+, or disposition 90.
      1. Following this route allows you to talk to Washes-Their-Scales and Leius Corsus for new dialogue.
    • Leius Corsus will confess to his involvement with a disposition of over 80 (or 70 if Speechcraft exceeds 50).
  3. Enter the sewers from the mortuary and search the body there.
  4. Talk to Galug the Barber. Either:
    • Accept the bribe for 250 gold.
    • Fight Galug.
  5. Report back to Helice.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Notes[edit]

  • If you have uncovered that Jannav's son is missing, and found his body in the sewers, then it is possible to pin the blame either on Leius Corsus or Washes-Their-Scales.
  • You can accept the bribe and still report Galug.
  • There is no option to report Galug only - he can only be reported alongside Leius, even if Leius's involvement has not been discovered. This is likely an oversight.

Quest Stages[edit]

The following Quest_ID and Index codes can be used with the Journal Console command to manually update the quest to a certain point.

Index Finishes Quest Journal Entry
5 Finishes quest☑ Helice Rastin, a priestess of Arkay, needs help to find out who has been graverobbing the Arkay Tower mortuary. I couldn't be bothered.
10 Restarts quest Helice Rastin, a priestess in the Tower of Arkay, told me that over the last few months a number of corpses have disappeared from the tower's mortuary without a trace. She has entrusted me with finding out who's behind these disappearing bodies. I should talk to the people in the undercroft mortuary and learn what they know. Helice Rastin told me to report back to her when I have solved the case.
20 I've found the body of Tindalos Miranus.
30 I was accosted by Galug the Barber, the Court Physician's assistant, in the sewers. Galug told me that it was he who contacted Leius Corsus to procure him with fresh cadavers for medical study, which are apparently hard to come by otherwise. He offered me 250 pieces of gold to let him take the body of Tindalos Miranus.
40 I convinced Galug the Barber to leave the body of Tindalos Miranus alone. I should let both Jannov Miranus and Helice Rastin know of what I have learned.
50 I failed to convince Galug the Barber to leave the body of Tindalos Miranus alone. It would seem that violence is the only language he will listen to.
60 Galug the Barber is dead.
100 Finishes quest☑ I've told Helice Rastin what I've learned, and she thanked me for my help.
110 I took the money Galug the Barber offered me. I should probably come up with some sort of explanation for Jannov Miranus and Helice Rastin.
130 Finishes quest☑ I've told Helice Rastin the identity of the graverobber.
Ghoulish Business (TR_m3_OE_GhoulArgonian)
10 Washes-Their-Scales said he knows that bodies have gone missing, but doesn't know who's behind it. He claimed that he isn't to blame, though, because he considers the dead to be his friends and would never treat them with disrespect.
20 Washes-Their-Scales said that he washed the body of Tindalos Miranus before he showed it to Jannov Miranus. Leius Corsus then took the body and its coffin to the back room to nail the coffin's lid on, making him the last person to have seen the body. It may be worth hearing Leius's version.
Ghoulish Business (TR_m3_OE_GhoulImperial)
10 Leius Corsus, a priest, said that he doesn't know anything about the disappearing bodies. However, he pointed a finger towards Washes-Their-Scales, a fellow priest, who he thinks is always acting strange. Leius Corsus said that if I reported to Helice Rastin that Washes-Their-Scales was the graverobber he would back me up.
20 Leius Corsus told me that Washes-Their-Scales was responsible for washing Tindalos' body. He said that the Argonian is probably guilty of its disappearance, too.
30 Leius Corsus vehemently denied any allegations of graverobbing. He claimed that the coffin could have been opened at any time to steal the body inside.
35 I believe Leius Corsus wants to tell me something about the disappearing bodies.
40 Leius Corsus admitted that he's responsible for the disappearance of the bodies. He told me that his graverobbing career started after he got an anonymous letter where he was promised money in exchange for fresh bodies. Leius claims that he doesn't know who is paying him--he just leaves the bodies in the sewer below and comes back later to collect a coin purse the unknown ghoul has left behind. I have a key with which to gain access to the sewers. I should head there and see what I can find.
Ghoulish Business (TR_m3_OE_GhoulJannav)
10 Jannov Miranus, a commoner from Cyrodiil, said that he doesn't know anything about the missing bodies. Miranus explained that he has arrived in Morrowind just recently to bring the body of his son, Tindalos, back home.
20 I asked Jannov Miranus the permission to see if Tindalos' body is in the coffin where it's supposed to be. He declined.
30 Lifting the lid on Tindalos Miranus' coffin revealed that his body has gone missing too. Shocked and grief-stricken Jannos Miranus asked me to find out what has happened to it. Indeed, solving the mystery of Tindalos' missing body would probably provide a solution to the whole case.
