Betrid Silver-Blood is a Nord citizen who lives at the Treasury House in Markarth. Her husband is the influential head of the Silver-Blood family, Thonar, whom she only married for the money.
Before the related quest, all her time is spent reading in a chair at the Treasury House. If you choose to question Thonar as part of your investigation, she is killed by Nana Ildene in a scripted death. If you choose not to question Thonar (see notes) she will survive the quest and, once you have escaped from Cidhna Mine, she will have picked up her daily routine.
She sleeps in the northwestern bedroom every night between 10pm and 6am. After waking up she spends the entire day strolling around, either eating, cooking, relaxing, or reading her book. At 9am and 8pm she pauses for a one-hour meal.
She wears a set of fine clothes and a pair of fine boots, and is equipped with an iron dagger. She carries a key to the Treasury House and a selection of higher-class loot and gold.
Related Quests[edit]
- The Forsworn Conspiracy: Investigate a murder in Markarth to discover a sinister plot surrounding the Forsworn.
Dialogue[edit]
She is overly snobbish and will readily tell you about her status when approached. You can ask her questions about her family.
- "I'm married to Thonar Silver-Blood. Keep that in mind while you're speaking to me."
- "My husband Thonar handles all our family's business. He's an important man."
- "I married Thonar for the money, and I'm not the least bit ashamed to admit it."
- You're an important family, I take it?
- "My dear vagrant, we're the only family worth knowing in Markarth. We own everything in this city, even the jail. And guess who owns the Silver-Blood Inn? Not that we named it that, the people just insisted."
- You're married to Thonar? What's he like?
- "He's the real head of this family. He may not be the eldest, but all the work that keeps us respected is handled by my Thonar."
When exiting conversation she can say:
- "Yes, I was bored talking to you anyway."
- "Take care."
Conversations[edit]
She will occasionally engage in conversation with her husband:
- Betrid: "Where were you last night, Thonar? Busy with work or have you found some other woman who's willing to tolerate your lack of ambition?"
- Thonar: "I am busy keeping this family in coin and your pretty little head adorned with jewels, so I'll thank you not to question where I go at night, wife."
- Betrid: "Well maybe if you would finally convince Thongvor to put you in charge of the family, I wouldn't need to question you anymore."
- Thonar: "I'll take control of the family on my own time, Betrid. Until then, my brother remains in charge and you'll keep your mouth shut."
- Betrid: "Oh dear, whatever is a girl to do with such fearful brutes about her?"
- Betrid: "Did I hear correctly, Thonar? Is your brother really asking you to settle another dispute between Mulush and Nepos?"
- Thonar: "Someone has to keep the silver production running, Betrid, and that means keeping Mulush and Nepos in line once in a while."
- Betrid: "Humph. Who's running the Silver-Bloods? You or your brother? You need to tell Thongvor that he should settle this himself or step down."
- Thonar: "The only thing I need to do, dear wife, is make sure profits are up, no matter what. If Thongvor won't do the dirty work, I will."
- Betrid: "You'll never be in charge of this family with that attitude, loving husband."
During a conversation with Rhiada, Betrid will accidentally reveal a well-kept secret from her past:
- Betrid: "Rhiada, did you clean the tables today? They're filthy!"
- Rhiada: "I'm sorry, Betrid. I'll clean them right away."
- Betrid: "No, don't bother. You're useless, as always. I'll get Ildene to do it."
- Rhiada: "I'm sorry, Betrid. I thought I had cleaned the tables properly."
- Betrid: "Oh, stop apologizing. It makes you look like an idiot. Learn to talk back a bit, girl! Why, when I was in the temple...."
- Rhiada: "The temple, Betrid? You were one of Dibella's faithful?"
- Betrid: "I misspoke. Never mind what I said. Now get back to work."
Unused Dialogue[edit]
Betrid has unused dialogue tied to multiple quests she was once meant to give you or play a role in. This dialogue can only be found in the game's DialogueViews files, and not the Creation Kit.
FreeformMarkarthF[edit]
This quest would be started by talking to Lisbet. She would ask you to deliver a letter to Betrid, and warns you that she will not be happy with its contents.
- I have a letter from Lisbet.
- "What's this? Some plea for alms for that beggar of a store she runs? Why that... daedra-cavorting harlot. You haven't read this letter, have you?"
You would then get multiple options, with all of them apparently leading to the same result:
Topic | Dialogue |
---|---|
Yes, I did. Yes, I did. (Lie) No, I haven't. No, I haven't. (Lie) |
"Well keep quiet and tell Lisbet I'll take care of things. Now get out of my sight." |
FreeformMarkarthK[edit]
In this quest, Betrid would ask you to deliver a note to Kleppr at the Silver-Blood Inn. However, her initial dialogue for this isn't present. Her lines upon returning are, however.
- I delivered your note.
- "Always good to make sure people know their place, don't you think? Now why don't you take a few coins and run along. Oh, wait, I was going to introduce you to my husband. Just tell him I sent you, and he'll find some way to put you to work."
Notes[edit]
- Betrid's death can be avoided by pickpocketing and reading Thonar's journal instead of questioning him.
- Alternatively, it can be avoided by going directly to Eltrys after questioning Nepos the Nose.
- If you kill Donnel, Rhiada and Nana Ildene before talking to Thonar, she will spontaneously die with no direct cause anyway, prompting Thonar to comment that the Forsworn killed her, even though her intended murderers are already dead.
- The scenes Hroki has with Hogni Red-Arm and Kerah in the marketplace all internally refer to Betrid instead, suggesting they were originally written for her.
- Internally, Betrid is marked as a rival of Hamal. Seeing as Betrid once served at the Temple, it's possible there's bad blood between the two, although neither woman ever mentions the other.
